Nazarian / Curcio is pleased to present works by Houston based artist Trenton Doyle Hancock, Los Angeles based artist Widline Cadet, Oakland based artist Maria A. Guzmán Capron, Los Angeles based artist Cammie Staros, and Los Angeles based artist Kour Pour. These artists are united in their exploration of personal histories to address pertinent social issues, including diasporic experiences, class dynamics, and gender roles. Through a range of mediums, each artist delves into their unique cultural and personal narratives to reflect on the intersections of identity, power, and memory.
Trenton Doyle Hancock (b. 1974, Oklahoma City, OK; Lives and works in Houston, TX) grew up in Paris, Texas. Hancock was featured in the 2000 and 2002 Whitney Biennial exhibitions, becoming one of the youngest artists in history to participate in this prestigious survey. In 2014, his exhibition Skin & Bones: 20 Years of Drawing was presented at Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, and traveled to Akron Art Museum; Studio Museum in Harlem; and Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. His work has been the subject of one-person exhibitions at Ringling Museum of Art; University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum; Savannah College of Art and Design; Weatherspoon Museum; Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth; Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; Institute for Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania; Olympic Sculpture Park at the Seattle Art Museum; Fruitmarket Gallery; and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
Hancock’s world has been translated into performance in the original ballet Cult of Color: Call to Color, commissioned by Ballet Austin; and through site-specific murals for the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Dallas and at the Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park. In 2019, the artist presented his most comprehensive exhibition to date, Mind of the Mound: Critical Mass, at MASS MoCA, North Adams, MA.

Widline Cadet (b. 1992, Pétion-Ville, Ayiti; Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA) earned her BA in studio art from the City College of New York and an MFA from Syracuse University. She a recipient of a 2013 Mortimer-Hays Brandeis Traveling Fellowship, a 2018 Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture artist in resident, a 2019 Lighthouse Works fellow, a 2019 Syracuse University VPA Turner artist in resident, a 2020 Lit List finalist, the 2020 Museum of Contemporary Photography’s Snider Prize winner, a recipient of a 2020 NYFA / JGS Fellowship in photography, a 2020-21 artist in residence at Studio Museum in Harlem, and a 2021-2022 visual arts fellow at Fine Arts Work Center. Recent solo exhibitions include Huis Marseille, Amsterdam, NL, and group exhibitions include Shulamit Nazarian, Los Angeles, CA; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Somerset House, London, UK; Fotografiska Museum, New York; Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, WI; MoCP, Chicago; and Express Newark, Newark, NJ.
Her work has been featured in Aperture Magazine, FOAM, The New Yorker, TIME Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, Financial Times, Wallpaper* among others. Cadet has exhibited in the U.S. and internationally. Her work is held in various public and private collections including, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography, Amsterdam; Los Angele County Museum of Art (LACMA); Pérez Art Museum, Miami; Milwaukee Art Museum; Princeton University Art Museum; The Crocker Museum; Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University, Chicago.
Cadet's work will be included in Flow States: La Trienal at El Museo del Barrio, New York, opening October 10, 2024.
Maria A. Guzmán Capron (b. 1981, Milan, IT; Lives and works in Oakland, CA) was born in Italy to Colombian and Peruvian parents. She received her MFA from California College of the Arts in 2015 and her BFA from the University of Houston in 2004. Select solo exhibitions include San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA; the Blaffer Art Museum, Houston, TX; Shulamit Nazarian, Los Angeles, CA; Texas State Galleries, San Marcos, TX and Guerrero Gallery, San Francisco, CA. Capron’s work is in the collection of the de Young Museum, San Francisco, CA; the Jorge M. Pérez, Miami, FL; and the Speed Art Museum, Louisville, KY. As a 2022 recipient of SFMOMA’s SECA Award, her exhibition Respira Hondo was presented at SFMOMA through May 2023.
Capron has an upcoming solo exhibition at UB Center for the Arts in Buffalo, NY, opening October 24, 2024. Her work will be included in Flow States: La Trienal at El Museo del Barrio, New York, opening October 10, 2024.
Cammie Staros (b. 1983, Nashville, TN; Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA) received her BA from Brown University, Providence, in 2006 and her MFA from California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles, in 2011. Staros has had solo exhibitions at Providence College Galleries, Providence, RI; SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah, GA; Pitzer College Art Galleries, Claremont, CA; Shulamit Nazarian, Los Angeles; Lefebvre & Fils, Paris, and Ghebaly Gallery, Los Angeles. The artist was included in the Craft Contemporary’s second clay biennial in Los Angeles. Staros’ work is featured in 100 Sculptors of Tomorrow, a survey of contemporary sculpture, authored by Kurt Beers and published by Thames & Hudson. She has also been featured in Artforum, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Hyperallergic, Autre Magazine, and the X–TRA art journal. She has been awarded residencies by the Headlands Center for the Arts and the Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Staros was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship award in 2020. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Seattle Art Museum, WA.
Kour Pour (b. 1987, Exeter, England) earned his BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, CA. Select solo exhibitions include Gallery 1957 in London, UK; Shrine/Sargent’s Daughters in New York, NY; Kavi Gupta, Chicago, IL; The Club, Tokyp, JP; Ever Gold Projects, San Francisco, CA; Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago, IL; and Gnyp Gallery, Berlin, DE. His work has also been featured in prominent group exhibitions, such as Hongwanji Dendoin, Kyoto, JP; Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando, FL; Museum of Art and History, Lancaster, CA; and will be featured in Spirit House at Cantor Arts Center, Stanford, CA.
Pour’s work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Galerie Magazine, and Hypebeast amongst others. Pour's practice has gained recognition in both public and private collections, including Art Jameel Collection, UAE; The Bunker Artspace, USA, and Perez Art Museum Miami, USA, among others. His contributions to contemporary art extend beyond exhibitions, with several publications dedicated to his work, such as Kour Pour, published by Skira in 2019, and Decoration Never Dies, Anyway, published by the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture in 2017. Pour has also been a part of numerous lectures and public programs, including the Artist Lecture Series at NYC Crit Club in 2022 and Roski Talks at the University of Southern California in 2021.
