For Frieze LA, Nazarian / Curcio is proud to present a solo booth by Los Angeles-based Haitian artist and Visiting Assistant Professor of Photography at UCLA, Wildline Cadet. This exhibition serves as a precursor to her 2024 solo show at the gallery.

Building upon her 2021 Artist-in-Residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem and subsequent solo display at MoMA PS1, Cadet shares photographs and videos that delve into intergenerational memory, selfhood, and erasure within the Haitian diasporic experience.

The collection features self-portraits (including others performing as Cadet’s double), portraits of family members, still lives, and landscapes that transport viewers between Cadet’s memories of a former life in Haiti and her current sense of self as a Black woman immigrant in America.

Cadet’s practice challenges traditional methods of photographic display. Framed videos are integrated into still photographs to create a world within a world. She engages gallery architecture by installing framed snapshots and large format photographs within corners, providing both intimate and panoramic viewing opportunities.
